BACBI: Calls to Action.

L’AURDIP et BRICUP ont écrit le 22 octobre 2015 au Haut Représentant de l’Union pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité, et au Commissaire européen à la recherche, à la science et à l’innovation pour les alerter sur la situation dramatique des étudiants palestiniens confrontés à la nouvelle agression israélienne qui cible particulièrement la jeunesse palestinienne et son système éducatif. La lettre demande instamment la suspension de l’accord d’association UE-Israël.

On 22 October 2015, AURDIP and BRICUP have written to the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and to the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation to alert them to the dramatic situation of Palestinian students confronted by the new Israeli aggression which targets in particular Palestine's youth and its education system. The letter urges the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

"In 2014 slaagden we er samen met meer dan 10.000 Belgen in om de economische missie van het Vlaamse, Waalse en Brusselse Gewest naar Israël tegen te houden. Dit jaar willen de Gewesten opnieuw een economische missie sturen hoewel de toestand helemaal niet veranderd is, Integendeel! Israël heeft nog steeds niet het minste respect voor het internationaal recht noch voor de fundamentele rechten van het Palestijnse volk. Zijn extreem-rechtse regering gaat onverminderd door met de kolonisering van Palestina."

"Just this morning for example, Israel demolished 25 structures, including several homes, belonging to Palestinian Bedouins near the village of Jaba northeast of Jerusalem. 100 persons were left homeless, including 70 children. This makes 154 people, including 103 children that Israel has displaced, this week alone, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs."

"We demand that the US administration intervene without delay for the immediate release from Israeli prisons of all Palestinian administrative detainees and political prisoners including children. The Israeli occupation authorities and courts continue to detain Palestinians under the "Emergency Law of 1945", which was in force during the British Mandate of Palestine."

"On August 1, 2014, Rafah’s streets were busy with residents emerging from shelter in anticipation of a 72-hour temporary truce set to begin at 8 a.m. that morning. The ceasefire never took shape as clashes broke out between an Israeli army reconnaissance unit and Palestinian fighters, which led to the capture of Israeli soldier Lieutenant Hadar Goldin... According to Amnesty International, an Israeli military inquiry determined that “more than 2,000 bombs, missiles and shells were fired during the entire day, including 1,000 in the three hours following the capture.”"

"Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHR-IL) call for urgent action to save the life of Palestinian detainee Mohammad Allan, a Palestinian attorney who has been on hunger strike for 54 days in protest of his administrative detention without charge or trial since November 2014. Mohammad Allan is being held by the Israeli Prison Services (IPS). Early this morning he was transferred from the intensive care unit in Soroka Hospital, Beer Al-Sabe to Barzilai hospital, Askalan. Allan is in a critical condition, not taking any minerals, vitamins or supplements and has refused medical examinations."

"These demands are basic principles of justice. The violent raids and attacks by special forces; the ongoing denial of family visits and medical care to Palestinian prisoners; and the difficult and often dangerous living conditions in Israeli jails (particularly now, as temperatures soar and Palestinian prisoners suffer in the heat) are abhorrent. The use of administrative detention to imprison hundreds of Palestinians without charge or trial is an illegitimate and unlawful attack on Palestinians' basic civil and political rights."

"Ahmad Sa’adat, the imprisoned General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestinian national political leader, issued the following call to international supporters of Palestine to escalate the campaigns for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions at all levels in support of the prisoners’ struggle. Sa’adat was injured on Tuesday, 28 July when Israeli prison guards and special units attacked Palestinian political prisoners held in Nafha."

World renowned band, Bon Jovi, is scheduled to perform in Israel on October 3rd. We ask the members of the band, Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, and Tico Torres, to reconsider their concert in apartheid Israel, until Israel complies with international law and respects the rights of the indigenous Palestinian people.

"...En conséquence, nous, organisations de la société civile belge et internationale, appelons les autorités belges à : 1. agir aux niveaux national, européen et international pour mettre fin au blocus illégal de Gaza ; 2. agir en vue de mettre fin à l’impunité qui prévaut à Gaza et en Israël. Il est essentiel que des comptes soient rendus pour les violations avérées du droit international humanitaire. La Belgique doit soutenir chaque démarche qui tend à cet objectif et garantir que les violations des droits humains ne se répètent plus ; 3. agir pour mettre fin à la politique israélienne de séparation drastique des entités palestiniennes et pour maintenir l’intégrité territoriale de la Palestine ; 4. relancer les négociations du Caire afin de reconstruire Gaza ; 5. suspendre immédiatement les transferts d’armes ou de munitions vers Israël (c’est déjà le cas pour les groupes armés à Gaza) vu le risque majeur de voir ces armes servir à des violations du droit international humanitaire. La Belgique doit garantir que la suspension du transfert des armes sera respectée au niveau européen en accord avec la position commune sur les transferts des armes du Conseil de l’Union européenne".

"L’Union des Progressistes Juifs de Belgique (UPJB) est indignée et très inquiète d’apprendre que Pierre Stambul, co-président de l’Union Juive Française pour la Paix (UJFP) a été brutalement arrêté cette nuit à son domicile en France par la police anti-terroriste du Raid. Il a heureusement été libéré après quelques heures mais il est clair que cette arrestation relève de l’intimidation politique : le militant sioniste d’extrême-droite Gregory Chelli, dit « Ulkan », avait fait croire à la police française que Pierre avait assassiné sa propre femme ! Proche de la Ligue de Défense Juive, « Ulkan » est en phase avec la vaste campagne de délégitimation de celles et ceux, et notamment des Juifs, qui s’opposent à la politique israélienne. Pacifiste radical, Pierre milite de longue date pour la coexistence et l’égalité entre Israéliens et Palestiniens et, au-delà, entre les communautés juives et arabes en Europe. Nous exprimons notre entière solidarité envers Pierre Stambul et l’UJFP et nous nous insurgeons avec force contre la criminalisation de la solidarité avec le peuple palestinien".

As Palestinians commemorate the Nakba, the catastrophe in 1948 when more than 700,000 indigenous Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homes by Zionist militias and later the State of Israel, life in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip is reaching a fatal tipping point, as the UN has warned.
Close to 2 million Palestinians are incarcerated by Israel in a small space condemned to a life of misery, where not even water, the source of life, is fit for human consumption. The provision of basic services such as health and education is faltering and the alarm must be sounded. This is an Israeli-made “tsunami” that can be stopped if enough people of conscience around the world would hold Israel to account and pressure their institutions and governments to do so. Israel must pay a heavy price for its criminal behaviour...".
